Zen Hewn | Gyrotonic

There is stretching, Yoga, and Pilates, and then there’s Gyrotonic. If you want to be able to move more and really get back to living your life, this is for you. In just the short 10min demonstration test I did with Joseph after our branding shoot together, my whole upper body was open and relaxed. I have stretched before workouts but not like this. This was a workout and stretching combined.

His studio space is located in downtown Portland at 1420 NW 17th Ave, Ste 288, Portland, Oregon 97209. Lots of free parking behind his space makes it really easy to get in for appointments. Joseph has been doing this for over 8 years and is very knowledgeable and was great to work with.

In Josephs words, “What I love most about my work is helping people feel good in their bodies and rediscover the joy of moving well. When we can move with freedom and ease, we are free to pursue to joys of life

Many of the people I work with are recovering from injury, seeking to age gracefully, or looking to enhance their athletic performance. Often what limits us isn’t strength, but muscular tension, lack of body awareness, or poor coordination. In my work, I address these issues through a combination of massage techniques, and Gyrotonic exercises. Massage to release restrictions and tension in the body, while Gyrotonic work to teach fluid, integrated movement. Together, they create lasting change—not just in how you move, but in how you feel and experience life every day.”

As you can see from the photos, you get to do some really fun and intense things. Check out his site at zenhewn.com

Peter Mahar

I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus!
