Chef Steven Cabrera

About a year ago, I was commissioned by a @1889washington magazine to photograph Chef Steven Cabrera. He forages for his own mushrooms and is known for making some really tasty dishes. It was so amazing getting to follow him around and watch him spot mushrooms hiding in plain sight. He told me how you learn to just see them, and you start to see them everywhere. In just a short amount of time, we found a basket's worth, and that was a bad day, he told me. Afterwards, I got him in the Heirloom Portrait studio to get him some new headshots.

Before our session together I asked him how people at work saw him, and he replied, “joyful”.

Peter Mahar
I'm Peter Mahar, a professional wedding photographer based in Portland, Oregon. I grew up the youngest in crazy family of six--which was great, because I got to make my brothers and sisters laugh, and not-so-great, because I had to sit in the back of the van on the seat with the stupid bump in the cushion. I make pizza and talk a lot. I'm part Italian, so I use a lot of gestures (especially during photo shoots). I love deep conversations, a good fire, and a glass of wine. But most of all, I love Jesus, because He's great and I'm not.
